Calgary Stampeders Release Four


CALGARY, AB-The Calgary Stampeders have announced the release of four players.

Quarterback Ben Sankey, Defensive tackle Howard Hodges, LB Saleem Rasheed and Safety Richard Karikari were the four to be released.

Head coach and general manager, John Hufnagel said of the move, ''I would like to thank these four players for their efforts in helping us win the Grey Cup in 2008 and wish them the best in their future endeavours. ''We've managed to keep our nucleus mainly intact for 2009 and we'll have more announcements in the coming weeks to fill out the rest of the roster".

Sankey has had three stints with the Stampeders and stepped into the backup role to Henry Burris last year when now retired Dave Dickenson went down due to injury.

Karikari was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in 2003 and got three tackles last year, Hodges and Rasheed have both had stints in the NFL.

Rasheed had 28 tackles while Hodges had four sacks last year for the Grey Cup winner.
